Fall is now upon us, which means it’s time to perform maintenance after exposing your home to the elements over the past few months. Cleaning your windows should be on your to-do list, and it’s fairly easy to do. However, it can be tough, especially if you consider the ones installed at a certain height. Preparation, however, is the key to making this task work.
Set the Date
As with any other home maintenance task, window cleaning is a process that requires planning. You can’t just decide on it on a random day. Streaking on the glass surface can occur if you wash the windows on a sunny or hot day. A day with outside temperatures that don’t exceed 70 degrees is ideal. Of course, don’t clean your windows on a rainy day.
Find a Safe Method to Get to the Exterior
There are two methods to clean high windows. On the one hand, you can get up there using an extension or a step ladder. Exercise proper caution when you are on the same level as the windows. If it’s not worth the risk, you can always invest in a squeegee with a long handle. It should be long enough to reach the windows.
Prep the Windows Before Washing
Be sure to put in some prep time for your high windows. They hadn’t been cleaned for a long time, which means you’ll have plenty of dirt and debris to remove. A small hand-held vacuum cleaner works for this task. If you don’t have one, a small broom and a used soft-bristled brush should be enough.
Gather the Necessary Supplies
Make sure all the needed supplies for cleaning high windows are ready and on hand before you begin. Aside from the squeegee, you should have large sponges, a mild dishwashing liquid or detergent, an all-purpose cleaner, towels and lint-free clothes for drying.
